Air Conditioner Spring Start Up Tips

Spring in Regina is here! Be sure your air conditioner is ready with the following spring start up tips:

  • Remove bushes or anything that could interfere with the airflow through the outdoor unit
  • Remove the cover
  • Turn the outdoor switch on if there is one
  • Turn the breaker on
  • Replace the furnace filter if required
  • Check the drain hose from the air conditioner coil above the furnace, make sure the hose is not plugged
  • Turn the humidifier water off and close the damper
  • Make sure the wall switch in the stairwell is turn on, if there is one
  • Set the switch on the thermostat to cool
  • Set the desired temperature
  • The air conditioner will cycle on and off to keep the temperature at the set point

Check the operation of your air conditioner before it gets hot so any necessary repairs can be done before the busy season!

Fall Shut Down Tips:

  • Turn the outdoor switch off, this will remind you to check the outdoor unit in the spring
  • Put the cover on the outdoor unit if you have one
  • If you do not have an outdoor switch then turn off the breaker in case you forget to remove the cover in the spring
  • Change the furnace filter if required
  • Turn the humidifier water on and open the damper. Change the humidifier pad if required
